Vaal University of Technology Undergraduate Admission Requirements (VUT 2026)
Good news to all VUT aspiring students! Vaal University of Technology has finally released its 2026 undergraduate admission requirements for its diploma programs across all its faculties. The University has made a name for itself when it comes to engineering, applied science, IT, management, health science, and human science. If you have a core interest in these major courses, it is important that you know the APS (Admission Point Score) and subject requirements for the course you're applying to.
In this guide, I'll be covering everything you need to know about VUT's APS Calculation, the faculty minimum scores, as well as some of the key deadlines.
Before you can apply for VUT, you must meet its requirements. One of their requirements is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a Diploma or Bachelor endorsement. No matter which kind of certificate you're holding as an applicant, you must ensure that you meet the specific APS (Admission Point Score) threshold. However, one thing you need to know is that meeting these requirements does not mean you are going to get admission. The reason for this is the fact that the university is a very competitive one. You will likely have to compete with some of the best students out there who are also applying. The application is opening in mid‑2025 and closes on 30 September 2025 for undergraduate study applications, and 31 October 2025 for residence applications.
What is APS, and How Does VUT Use It
The APS is an acronym for Admission Point Score. This point score is calculated using your NSC (National Senior Certificate). However, it is important that you know that Life Orientation is excluded from this list. This is why it uses your best six subjects. These six subjects we are talking about here contribute valuable points, which are determined based on your final Grade 12 result. See the image below showing the APS Calculation table:

With this table above, you can use it as a guide for calculating your points for each of the subjects, excluding life orientation. Once you do that, you can then compare and see in other to see where you fall into.
Let me explain something important that you need to understand. Let's say, for instance, if you have five subjects at Level 4 (4 each) plus one at Level 5 (5), your total APS = 4×5 + 5 = 25 points.
